Lake Balaton Minor

Incredibly rich home of unique flora and fauna

This wetland wilderness is a popular destination among eco-tourists because its nearly 150 square kilometres is home to a wide array of plants and animals, and its enchanting natural treasures make it one of Europe’s most fascinating wetland habitats.

Most of the area is a nature reserve, part of the Balaton Uplands National Park. There is a lot to see here: Little Balaton is perhaps most famous for its bird reserve, but it is also known as the ‘cradle of the fishes of Lake Balaton’.

Visit the Visitor center, where an interactive exhibition awaits you and you can learn about possible hiking routes.

In summer for bathing, and in winter for rowing.

The wonderful warm water environment here also provides a delightful and unique experience.

'Szépkilátó' Viewpoint

One of the most beautiful viewpoints

The view is fantastic: on the left, mountains of the Tapolca-basin: Badacsony, Saint-George-hill, Csobánc, Gulács, Tóti-mountain, Haláp, Somló, Lesser-Somló & Ság-hill. The mountain range marked by the once-existing volcanic activity surround the Eastern part of the bay. This scenery is enriched by the castle of Szigliget. The Awakening Volcano Sculpture Park

One of the charming buttresses of the Balaton Uplands is Haláp Hill, which closes off the Tapolca Basin from the northeast. It was once similar to Badacsony, but its top was mined over time.

Although it is still considered a stepchild among the nine buttresses of the Balaton Uplands, more and more hikers are discovering its beauty.

The basalt forms of the mountain, now referred to as Haláp Torso or Truncated Haláp, offer a special sight on the side of the large crater. Of the mountain's 358-meter height, only 291 meters remain today. Mining ended a few years ago, and a natural amphitheater was created in the secluded place, where the 3-km Haláp Nature Trail runs.
