Incredibly rich home of unique flora and fauna
This wetland wilderness is a popular destination among eco-tourists because its nearly 150 square kilometres is home to a wide array of plants and animals, and its enchanting natural treasures make it one of Europe’s most fascinating wetland habitats.
Most of the area is a nature reserve, part of the Balaton Uplands National Park. There is a lot to see here: Little Balaton is perhaps most famous for its bird reserve, but it is also known as the ‘cradle of the fishes of Lake Balaton’.
Visit the Visitor center, where an interactive exhibition awaits you and you can learn about possible hiking routes.

Hévíz Stream
Hidden gem of Hévíz
Many have heard of it, but not everyone has tried it.
The drained water of Lake Hévíz flows into the Zala River.
However, the ditch after the lock is used by visitors in all seasons.
In summer for bathing, and in winter for rowing.
The wonderful warm water environment here also provides a delightful and unique experience.
Winter rowing always requires a permit, so it is worth signing up for a guided tour.

A special attention is paid to unique dishes, for which the necessary ingredients are always obtained from local breeders and producers.
The restaurant is famous for its dishes made exclusively from Hungarian specialties, including goat, gray cattle, water buffalo, donkey, guinea fowl, rabbit and mangalica.
Table reservations are highly recommended!
Open from April 1 to November 1.
It is worth taking a walk next to the restaurant to the Kálvária hill and the Árpád-era temple.

Festetics Castle
Stunning park and long history make it a gem of the area
The Festetics Castle park surrounding Hungary's most visited castle is an excellent choice if we would like to take a walk in a peaceful and beautiful environment in the city center of Keszthely. The park was renovated in 2015 using 19th century plans.
It is one of the few places that can still be visited for free. Anyone who is around should not miss it, it is beautiful.
Visit also the Carriage Exhibition in the park, where you can learn about the former means of transport of the Festetics family! Turning left in front of the lion fountain, you will find the Palm House and Bird Park, if you are interested in the exotic world, be sure to come in! After touring the vast area, you will find the beautiful building of the Hunting Exhibition and Historical Model Railway Exhibition at the back exit.

'Szépkilátó' Viewpoint
One of the most beautiful viewpoints
The view is fantastic: on the left, mountains of the Tapolca-basin: Badacsony, Saint-George-hill, Csobánc, Gulács, Tóti-mountain, Haláp, Somló, Lesser-Somló & Ság-hill. The mountain range marked by the once-existing volcanic activity surround the Eastern part of the bay. This scenery is enriched by the castle of Szigliget. On the left, in front of the mountains is the reconstruced walls of the castle, which inject a bit of history to the landscape.

The Awakening Volcano Sculpture Park
One of the charming buttresses of the Balaton Uplands is Haláp Hill, which closes off the Tapolca Basin from the northeast. It was once similar to Badacsony, but its top was mined over time.
Although it is still considered a stepchild among the nine buttresses of the Balaton Uplands, more and more hikers are discovering its beauty.
The basalt forms of the mountain, now referred to as Haláp Torso or Truncated Haláp, offer a special sight on the side of the large crater. Of the mountain's 358-meter height, only 291 meters remain today. Mining ended a few years ago, and a natural amphitheater was created in the secluded place, where the 3-km Haláp Nature Trail runs.
